My medical background supports effective ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease care in Australia.

Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, collectively known as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), are two chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Although their cause is uncertain, abnormal activation of the immune system and an altered microbiome may be significant contributors.

  • IBD can occur at any age but usually appears before 30. It can be debilitating, with frequent relapses, and is associated with other types of inflammation and an increased risk of colon cancer.
  • Until recently, nutritional recommendations for IBD treatment were poorly developed. The main approaches were centred around bowel rest.

Based on new research, I apply specific anti-inflammatory and microbiome-focused eating plans – in addition to the limited existing medical options – to help better manage this disorder. My goal is to help induce and maintain remission and reduce the long-term need for anti-inflammatory medications.
